Federal Disaster Money Approved for Massachusetts

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced Monday that federal disaster assistance has been made available to Massachusetts to supplement Commonwealth, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by the nor’easter storm and flooding from March 2 to March 3, 2018.

Federal funding is available to state, tribal, and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe winter storm and flooding in Barnstable, Bristol, Essex, Nantucket, Norfolk, and Plymouth counties.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures throughout Massachusetts.

James N. Russo has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Russo said additional designations may be made at a later date if warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
