Cape-Bound Plane Crash in NJ Was "Angel Flight"

Authorities have identified the two men who were killed when their small plane, bound for Hyannis, crashed in New Jersey shortly after takeoff.

Pilot Robert Winner, 69, and Timothy Scannevin, 71, both from Burlington County, New Jersey, were flying an “angel flight” on their way to Barnstable Municipal Airport to pick up a patient for transport.

The plane took off shortly after 9 a.m. from South Jersey Regional Airport in Lumberton – about 15 miles east of Philadelphia – and disappeared from radar about 30 minutes later. The crash occurred in a field in Smithfield, New Jersey, about ten miles northeast of the airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
