Yarmouth Police, on Monday, unveiled the K9 Storm Intruder Camera System, to be worn by the department’s K9s to give officers an extra set of eyes when the dog is deployed in searches or tactical situations.
The camera, which attaches to the K9’s bulletproof vest, can transmit images from up to 1,000 feet and has infrared capabilities to be able to work in total darkness. It can also transmit images through concrete.
The camera system was donated by the Yarmouth Police Foundation and costs more than $30,000. The device was paid for by donations that came into the department following the murder of K9 Sgt. Sean Gannon and the shooting of his K9 partner, Nero, who made a miraculous recovery and was recently cleared to resume normal activity.
