Steamship Authority General Manager Robert Davis says the SSA port captain has submitted his resignation.
Greg Gifford, 64, will retire next month from the position he has held since 2004.
The port captain oversees the SSA’s vessels and crews while acting as a liaison with the Coast Guard.
Davis says Gifford indicated he wanted to spend more time with his family at this stage of his life.
Assistant port captain, Capt. Charles Monteiro, will become interim port captain.
