While Wednesday was one of the most emotional and saddest of days in Cape Cod history, there was some good news announced by the Yarmouth Police Department.
Nero, Sgt. Sean Gannon’s K9 partner, was released from his hospital and taken home in the same cruiser he rode in with his deceased partner.
In a Facebook post, the Yarmouth Police Department extended thanks to all the loving and devoted employees at Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists in Dennis and Bourne who helped rescue and save the life of the 28-month old Belgian Malinois.
The YPD says it especially gives thanks to retired Yarmouth Police K9 handler Peter McClelland, who entered the home in Marstons Mills after Nero was shot and never left his side, staying with him in the hospital for 144 straight hours.
Nero will stay with Officer McClelland, a close friend of the Gannon family, until he fully heals and then will return to the Gannon family at the appropriate time.
