Interior Department's Request to Suspend Mashpee Wampanoag Suit Rejected
1/4/19A Federal Judge is denying a request from the U.S. Department of the Interior to issue a stay against a lawsuit from the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe challenging the agency's decision on holding its land in trust.
Attorneys requested the suspension last week due to the federal government shutdown, according to a report from the Cape Cod Times.
However, the judge granted another extension for the government to respond; the D.O.I. now has until January 30th.
The department ruled in September it could no-longer hold the tribe's land in trust.
