Sharks baseball team trying to swim to new league
1/2/19The Summer Collegiate Baseball Team that calls Martha's Vineyard home is looking to switch to a new league, over the objections of its current one.
The Martha's Vineyard Sharks want to jump from the Futures Collegiate Baseball League to the New England College Baseball League this year, but the Futures League is arguing, in a lawsuit, that the Sharks are violating league bylaws that say the team must demonstrate financial hardship and get a two-thirds vote from the board of directors.
The team responded by saying those bylaws are not enforceable, and a Middlesex Superior Court judge denied a motion for an injunction in October that would delay the move while the case is pending.
The Sharks shared the league championship with the Worcester Bravehearts last season after the championship game was called due to rain.
