Multiple Robberies in Wareham

Wareham PD/Robbery Arrests

12/19/18

Wareham Police responded Monday night to a report of an armed robbery at the Cumberland Farms Store on Depot Street.

At the scene officers determined that a man had handed the clerk a note saying he had a gun and demanded all the money.

He fled the store in an unknown direction with a small amount of cash.  An extensive search of the area by police did not yield any clues to the robber’s whereabouts.

Around 9:50 P.M. the same night, a robbery was reported at the Dollar General Store on Cranberry Highway. It appears the same man came into the store, said he had a gun, reached over the counter and grabbed all the money in the register before fleeing in an unknown direction.

Wareham detectives are investigating the robberies.

Tuesday morning around 8:30, Wareham Police were called back to the same Dollar General Store for a report of an armed suspect, with a bandana around his face, and wearing a blue coat, who robbed the store and fled.

Responding Officer Stephen Joy observed the suspect crossing the street with a handgun in his back pocket.

The officer confronted 46 year old James Demers of East Wareham and arrested him after a violent struggle. Demers was charged with armed robbery and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in Wareham District Court......the weapon was a pellet gun. Detectives don’t believe this robbery was connected to the two Monday night.
