Students Evacuated From Nantucket Schools

NANTUCKET/SCHOOL KITCHEN ALARM/EVACUATION

NANTUCKET FIRE FIGHTERS WERE DISPATCHED TO THE HIGH SCHOOL AND CYRUS PIERCE MIDDLE SCHOOL THURSDAY MORNING AFTER SMOKE IN THE CAFETERIA KITCHEN SET OFF FIRE ALARMS.

THE INQUIRER AND MIRROR REPORTS THAT STUDENTS WERE EVACUATED TO THE PLAYING FIELDS BEHIND THE SCHOOL WHILE THE CAUSE OF THE SMOKE WAS INVESTIGATED.

A STATEMENT FROM THE SCHOOL SYSTEM SAID THEIR EVACUATION PROCEDURES WERE FOLLOWED BY STAFF AND STUDENTS PERFECTLY, ENSURING THAT STUDENTS WERE ORDERLY AND SAFE AT ALL TIMES.

THE NANTUCKET FIRE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED WITHIN 10 MINUTES THAT IT WAS SAFE FOR THE STUDENTS AND STAFF TO RETURN TO THE BUILDING SHORTLY AFTER 8:30.

NO WORD ON THE CAUSE OF THE SMOKEY CONDITION.
