Mashpee Wampanoags Protest In Washington

Mashpee Wampanoag March In Washington

Hundreds marched in Washington in support of the Mashpee Wampanoag on Wednesday.

The tribe protested a recent decision by the Department of the Interior to not hold its land in trust, which tribal leaders say is a threat to its sovereignty.

9th District Congressman Bill Keating, who introduced a bill in congress that would re-affirm the tribe's land-trust status, told a crowd in front of the U.S. Capitol that the D.O.I decision was an existential threat.
