Woods Hole / Tornado
10/30/18
A preliminary National Weather Service storm survey has concluded that a waterspout in Vineyard Sound Monday morning came ashore in Woods Hole as a tornado and then quickly dissipated.
Eyewitness reports at the Woods Hole Golf Club indicated four large wooden chairs were lofted into the air, swirled around and were then thrown 500 yards away onto a tennis court.
There was no other damage.
At the same time, two nearby weather stations reported wind gusts of 56 and 65 MPH..
Falmouth Public Schools issued a statement saying all students had been moved to interior spaces, at ground level, and were safely waiting out the weather. There were no injuries reported.
This is, reportedly, the first tornado on Cape Cod in nearly 40 years.
