State Police/Distraught Man On The Vineyard
7/26/18
Troopers from the State Police Barracks on Martha’s Vineyard responded to a report Wednesday morning of a distraught and volatile 20 year old man in Tisbury, who was reportedly punching out glass windows and yelling loudly.
On the scene, troopers and local police found the man was armed with a knife and bleeding from broken shards of glass. He threatened to charge at police and attack them with the knife and stated he wished to provoke a suicide by cop.
The unidentified man barricaded himself in a second floor room and continuously yelled from a window making homicidal and suicidal statements, as well as threatening to kill the police and himself.
An elderly relative in the home was safely removed by police.
Tactical officers located the young man and entered the second story room where he threw a wrench at the entry team before being subdued by the use of an electronic control weapon.
He was taken to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for treatment and evaluation.
He will be charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.......the wrench.
