A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod aircrew medevaced an 84-year-old woman Monday after she fell while on the cruise ship Queen Mary 2 about 70 miles southeast of Nantucket.
Queen Mary 2’s crew notified Coast Guard watchstanders at around 9 a.m. of the incident, and requested a medevac for the patient who sustained a fractured ankle and a head injury.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew arrived on scene at around 11:45 and hoisted the patient along with her son and a registered nurse from the ship.
A Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft also responded and provided communication support.
The helicopter crew transported the patient and passengers to Massachusetts General Hospital; the victim is reportedly in stable condition.
