Vineyard Wind Selected
5/23/18
Massachusetts officials have selected a company to develop an approximately 100 turbine industrial wind farm in federal waters approximately 15 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard.
Vineyard Wind was chosen to negotiate a 20 year contract to build an 800 megawatt wind farm which could see construction beginning in 2019.
Governor Charlie Baker signed the Energy Diversity Act in 2016 with the goal of creating a clean, reliable and cost-effective energy future for Massachusetts residents and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change.
The selection allows Vineyard Wind to move ahead with negotiations to secure all necessary transmission services and power purchase agreements to deliver offshore wind electricity to Massachusetts customers.
The contract must then receive regulatory approval by the Mass Department of Public Utilities.
