Inmate Suicide Attempt Averted

Quick work Tuesday morning by staff at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility averted a suicide attempt.
Deputy Sheriff Kevin Perry was making a wellbeing check on a male inmate and witnessed that the man had configured a bed sheet around the top bunk frame of the cell and was attempting to hang himself.
Deputy Perry activated the jail’s Emergency Response Alert System bringing other officers and medical staff to the cell where they removed the inmate from the sheet which was wrapped around his neck.
The unidentified inmate was taken to Falmouth Hospital for further evaluation before being returned to the jail later in the day.
Sheriff James Cummings said the staff followed their training and stopped the suicide attempt. The inmate will receive appropriate follow up mental health services.
