CCS Frees Entangled Humpback Whale
4/24/18An entangled Humpback Whale was freed in Cape Cod Bay Sunday by a team from theCcenter for Coastal Studies in Provincetown.
Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises reported the distressed whale and stood-by until the marine animal entanglement response (MAER) crew from the center arrived on scene.
The MAER team discovered a small humpback that had line through its mouth leading to a bridle above the tail stock.
Responders were able to remove all the gear from the animal and the whale took off with speed once free, only surfacing once before being lost from sight by the team.
The whale has yet to be identified.
