A Coast Guard Jay Hawk Helicopter crew, along the crew of a fixed wing Ocean Sentry, both from Air Station Cape Cod, were dispatched early Tuesday morning for a report of an injured man aboard a fishing vessel 8o miles east of Mantauk, New York.
A press release says that watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound Command Center received notification around 11 P.M. Monday from the captain of the “Reaper”, a 45 foot fishing vessel home ported in Point Judith, Rhode Island, that a crewmember experienced what appeared to be a seizure and struck his head on an object when he fell.
The Jayhawk arrived on scene around 1:30 Tuesday morning and hoisted the man into the chopper and transported him to T.F. Green Airport where he was taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital.
There is no word at this time on his condition.
