Man Convicted of Manslaughter After Dealing Deadly Drug

A Whitman man is the first to be charged and convicted in Plymouth County of supplying the fatal overdose that caused the death of a 25-year-old woman.

After an 8-day trial, a Plymouth County jury found Steven Foss guilty of one count of Manslaughter and five counts of Distribution of a Class “A” Substance, Heroin.

It was back in February when Wareham Police received a 911 call for a suspected drug overdose and found the victim, Paige Lopes, already deceased.

An investigation by Massachusetts State Police revealed Lopes purchased $80 worth of heroin from Foss; she later ingested the drug and died.

Foss was arrested on March 11th after a search warrant was executed at his residence which yielded heroin, drug packaging materials, multiple cell phones and about $3,400 in cash.

He was also convicted on count each of Possession with Intent Distribute a Class “A” Substance and Intimidation of a Witness; sentencing is scheduled for April 6th in Brockton Superior Court.
