Wareham Police have arrested a man in connection with a hit and run accident Friday night on the Cranberry Highway in the area of the Onset Avenue intersection, which left an on duty Wareham firefighter critically injured.
The accident happened around 7 p.m. and the injured man was taken to Rhode Island hospital where he is undergoing treatment for multiple serious injuries
In a statement Monday, Wareham Police say information obtained through the “Text-A-Tip computer program led Wareham Detectives to the Knights Inn Motel in Barnstable where a grey/silver Subaru Forester Hatchback was found with matching damage
Subsequent investigation led police to obtain an arrest warrant for 28 year old Paul Durgin of Sandwich and he was taken into custody at the motel.
Durgin was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with personal injury, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon…..a motor vehicle.
He was arraigned Monday in Wareham District Court.
