Vineyard Officer Honored For Rescue Effort
2/27/18
A Martha's Vineyard police officer is being recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard for his response to an emergency situation.
Aquinnah officer David Murphy was presented with a meritorious public service award on Friday.
Murphy responded to a call for a man in distress and found town resident Eric Stange, who was clinging to a buoy off Red Beach in October 2016.
Murphy radioed for help and stayed with Stange until the Aquinnah Harbormaster and a firefighter arrived in an inflatable boat.
