Supreme Court Will Hear Case of Vineyard Man Facing Deportation
1/30/18
An immigration case from Martha's Vineyard is being taken up by the United States Supreme Court.
The case, taken up earlier this month, involves Brazilian native Wesley Fonseca Pereira, who is facing deportation.
Pereira was given temporary approval to stay in the U.S. in 2000, but stayed past his approved time, and received a notice to appear for a federal hearing in 2006.
His attorneys argue the notice was not received in the mail and that he should be allowed to stay in the country because of a ten-year rule regarding the continuous presence of an immigrant.
