The flu has had an impact on Nantucket where Cottage Hospital has seen an increase in the number of cases in the past week.
The Inquirer and Mirror reports that in addition to the cases confirmed by laboratory testing, there are other presumed flu cases in which patients have been diagnosed based on their symptoms, as well as those who have not sought treatment.
A hospital spokesman says flu cases are expected to rise on the island as the season continues.
Hospital officials remind everyone that it’s not too late to get a flu shot and there are other ways to reduce the risk of contracting this year’s virus including, clean your hands frequently with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth and avoid people who are sick.
Flu symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache chills and fatigue.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms stay home…..don’t go to school or work and spread your germs around. Your fellow workers or students will thank you.
