The Steamship Authority has released the identity of an employee who died while on the job Sunday.
Jack Hayes was a shuttle driver who was on duty at the Palmer Avenue parking lot; at the time of his passing around 3:30, the shuttle he was assigned to was stationary in the parking lot while picking up passengers.
A statement from Steamship Authority General Manager Robert Davis reads “Jack was a consummate professional, courteous and kind. To lose such a valuable member of our team is difficult. Our thoughts and sincerest sympathies are with his wife and two children at this time.”
Hayes spent the last 10 years working for the authority.
