Fire in Cotuit Believed to be Electrical in Nature

A fire in Cotuit Friday night may have been the cause of a faulty electrical meter.

Cotuit Fire and Rescue were notified at approximately 10:35 p.m. of a home on fire at 148 Hollow Road; units were told four people were in the house.

Barnstable Police arrived on scene first and immediately evacuated the building.

Upon arrival, crews found an exterior fire which extended to the interior of the first and second floor of the home.

Although the long and narrow access road made getting resources to the scene difficult, the fire was quickly extinguished with no injuries; the house sustained moderate damage.

Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills and Mashpee Fire assisted Cotuit in responding to the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, however officials say it originated in the area of the exterior electrical meter.
