A flash flood swept through the Cape and Islands Friday afternoon, making many Cape roadways impassable.
Various streets in Falmouth, including Main Street and Davis Straits, and other areas on Cape were affected heavily by the flooding, including areas of Route 28 and the Hyannis Rotary; the West End Rotary was shut down completely.
Some cars were completely submerged in water, with occupants needing assistance with getting out of their vehicles in Yarmouth Port and Falmouth. Assistance was also required in Chatham when a driver got stuck in a large puddle; the car stalled and would not start back up.
There were also reports of a boat capsizing in Harwich in Wychmere harbor; six people were aboard and all made it back to land safely.
Rescuers also responded to a motor vehicle accident in West Barnstable on Service Road at Old Stage Road. Meanwhile, a driver was reportedly trapped inside his disabled vehicle in the middle of Highland Road in Truro near Captain’s Choice; firefighters were able to free the driver.
Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire and Rescue responded to a total of 49 calls during the flooding.
Scattered power outages occurred in several towns, some caused by basement flooding; many towns on Cape saw well over 4 inches of rainfall.
