An accident in Wellfleet Friday afternoon shut down Route 6 for an extended period of time.
The incident happened at approximately 12:30 p.m. when a chain reaction crash occurred involving four vehicles including a cement mixer near Spring Brook Road.
Wellfleet Police arrived on scene and found the large cement truck on its side with the driver trapped.
The operator of the vehicle, 53-year-old Jeffrey Perry, of Eastham, was eventually freed and administered first aid; a med-flight helicopter arrived on scene for transport to a Boston hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
None of the other drivers were injured in the accident.
Traffic was unable to travel on Route 6 between Eastham and West Road for about 6 hours.
Wellfleet Police, Massachusetts State Police and the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Team are investigating the accident.
