A 14-month old child was killed Friday night in Mashpee after a vehicle hit him.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:27 at a residence on Coombs Lane.
Mashpee Police say the child, who was a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, was hit by a pick-up truck in his own driveway; Mashpee Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and rushed the young boy to Falmouth Hospital with “very critical” injuries.
Police were informed a short time later that the child had died.
Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Chairman Cedric Cromwell gave his condolences in a statement Saturday saying, “Whenever the life of a beloved tribal citizen is lost, it is heartbreaking. The loss of a precious baby is especially painful.”
Mashpee Police and the Cape Cod Regional Crash Reconstruction Team are investigating the accident.
