A school resource officer from Coventry, Connecticut, was found dead on Friday (December 6), hours after being arrested for allegedly luring a minor. Ryan Moan, 33, who was the school resource officer supervisor for Manchester Public Schools, was charged with risk of injury to a minor, enticing a minor by computer, misrepresentation of age to entice a minor, and tampering with physical evidence.

Moan, who was a sergeant with the Manchester Police Department, was released on a $50,000 bond and scheduled for an arraignment hearing on January 3. However, hours after his release, police in Vernon responded to a welfare check at a boat launch, where they found Moan deceased in his car from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The cause of death is still under investigation.

The arrest warrant for Moan was sealed, leaving the details of the allegations against him unclear. Officials did say that the charges were not related to his job as a police officer.

"The alleged actions are in complete contrast to MPD’s values of integrity, compassion, and fairness and do not reflect the professionalism and dedication of the officers who make up the department," Chief of Police William Darby and town manager Steve Stephanou said in a joint statement.

Superintendent of Manchester Public Schools Matt Geary issued a statement saying, "Sgt. Moan’s alleged actions are in contrast to the value, safety, trust, and integrity that we uphold."
