Gas Prices Continue Downward Trend

Gasoline prices in Massachusetts are down three cents this week, and are already 12 cents lower than at the start of the year, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA’s January 21 survey of prices in Massachusetts finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.41 per gallon. The Massachusetts price is seventeen cents higher than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.24. A year ago at this time, the average price in Massachusetts was ten cents higher at $2.51.

“If demand remains seasonally low amid continued growth in gasoline stocks across the country, Americans may see pump prices remain low for the remainder of the winter – assuming there are no unforeseen spikes in oil prices,” said Mary Maguire, Director of Public and Legislative Affairs.

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 88 cents, from a low of $2.17 to a high of $3.05. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
