2 Arrested for Attempted Armed Robbery in Hyannis

Barnstable Police News Release:

On Wednesday, January 9th, at about 7:15 pm, the Barnstable Police Department received a report of an armed robbery on West Main St. in Hyannis. Responding officers learned a 15-year-old male was robbed at gun point while trying to sell an iPhone. The victim previously featured the phone on a popular selling app, and made arrangements via social media to meet the buyer on West Main Street. When the buyer arrived in a motor vehicle, he allegedly brandished a white framed handgun in an attempt to rob the juvenile of the phone. The juvenile fled the area during the commission of the crime and did not relinquish the phone. He gave police a physical description of the assailant and vehicle which had a total of four occupants.

A short time later, Barnstable officers stopped a matching vehicle near the Yarmouth town line. Further investigation identified 20-year-old Terron Jackson of Harwich and 20-year-old Dereck Gonsalves of West Yarmouth as two main suspects. Officers recovered a firearm from the vehicle which matched the description of the firearm used in the robbery.

Jackson and Gonsalves were placed under arrest and transported to the Barnstable Police Department where Jackson was booked on charges of Attempting to Commit a Crime (Armed Robbery), Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Assault by Firearm. Gonsalves was booked on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Accessory After the Fact.

Both suspects made bail pending an appearance in Barnstable District Court on Thursday, January 10, 2019.

The investigation into the unidentified subjects is ongoing.

Gonsalves, Dereck and Jackson, Terron
