The owners of Captain Scott's Restaurant in Sandwich say they want to rebuild, following a four-alarm fire over the weekend.
The fire broke out just before dawn on Sunday at the restaurant on Tupper Road and when crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames in the rear of the building.
The fire expanded and the first floor became unsteady for firefighters, so they exited the structure.
Additional resources were called in from the Joint Base Cape Cod, Plymouth, Cotuit, Barnstable and West Barnstable fire departments. A third alarm was then called bringing units from Centeville-Osterville-Marstons Mills and Onset and that grew to a fourth alarm with additional resources from C-O-MM and the Hyannis Fire Department.
Officials say the building had to be torn down to ensure that the blaze was finally extinguished.
One firefighter was evaluated at the scene for exhaustion.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
