Center For Coastal Studies Responds To Entangled North Atlantic Right Whale

The Center for Coastal Studies is continuing its efforts to free a North Atlantic right whale that's been tangled in fishing gear since last year.

The Marine Animal Entanglement Response team was able to remove some gear last week, but some ropes remain, and they could be lethal.

Rescuers say the entangled five-year-old whale was first spotted off Georges Bank last December with multiple ropes and buoys caught around its upper jaw.

It was seen again last week during an aerial survey in Cape Cod Bay and some gear was removed.

The whale was seen again this week feeding within a large group of whales.
