South Dennis Man Arrested For Alleged Threat Of Prominent Federal Official

A South Dennis man allegedly threatened to murder a prominent federal official and two members of their family.

Sixty-two-year-old Michael Mahoney faces a federal charge of transmitting interstate threats to injure another person.

Charging documents indicate that a relative of the federal official received the threatening phone call on March 28th and the investigation that followed led to a phone number belonging to Mahoney.

Law enforcement officers went to Mahoney's home on March 29, but he refused to answer the door or his phone.

He was arrested and arraigned on Wednesday. Mahoney did not enter a plea, and he remains in custody until a hearing on April 8th.

Officials have not released the name of the federal official who was allegedly threatened.
