Arraignment expected Tuesday for a 34 year old Bourne woman accused of stealing items from cars parked at The Stop and Shop parking lot on the Cranberry Highway.
Police say Cassandra Lewandowski was going car-to-car trying to open unlocked doors.
"As the officers were investigating the incident Lewandowski discarded a loaded firearm during her interaction with officers," according to a statement.
Lewandowski was immediately placed in custody without incident, and officers immediately secured the firearm.
She is being held pending arraignment Tuesday, since the courts are closed for the Presidents Day Holiday.
Chief Walter Correia Jr. praised the collaborative effort between the employee at Stop and Shop who reported the incident to police, and the officers involved who acted quickly in taking a firearm off the streets of Wareham.
