The Davenport Companies, led by CEO DeWitt Davenport, is a diversified Cape Cod-based company with business interests located throughout New England and beyond. Founded in 1956 by Davenport’s father and grandfather, the company's interests include residential and commercial construction, rentals and leasing, senior living, fence companies, Blue Rock Golf Course in South Yarmouth, shopping centers, apartment complexes, a self-storage facility, real estate development in New England and Florida, a medical device company and various philanthropic efforts.
DeWitt Davenport is credited with greatly expanding the footprint of the company that was started by his family nearly seven decades ago, by diversifying into various business units. They previously owned the Red Jacket Resort chain, with properties on Cape Cod and New Hampshire, selling the portfolio in 2021. Since then, Davenport has continued to pursue new investment opportunities both in and outside of New England. He is currently overseeing the creation of several new residential rental projects on Cape Cod, including an innovative re-use of a historic church property in West Harwich.
In addition to being one of the leading entrepreneurs in the region, DeWitt Davenport is also a significant philanthropist, creating the Seaside Le Mans – The Race for the Cape Cod Community in 2001. The yearly F-1 style cart race in Mashpee Commons has raised well over $9 million dollars for dozens of Cape Cod non-profit organizations. He also oversees other family charitable efforts, including the John K. and Thirza F. Foundation for the Arts, and Palmer and Jane D. Davenport Foundation.
Davenport is a Past Chairman of the Board of Cape Cod Healthcare from May 2017 to May 2020. Cape Cod Healthcare is the leading provider of healthcare services for residents and visitors of Cape Cod. He co-founded Friends of Bass River, a nonprofit group that helps preserve and protect one of Cape Cod’s most environmentally sensitive waterways.
In 2019, DeWitt Davenport and The Davenport Companies received the Founders Community Leadership Award from John K. Kennedy Hyannis Museum Foundation.
Davenport is also an avid boater and sportfishermen who has a deep affinity to the ocean.
