Kiteboarder Dies After Emergency In Eastham

A kiteboarder died Saturday after being pulled from the waters of First Encounter Beach in Eastham.

Police and Fire department crews were called to the beach at around 9:30 a.m. and went into the water to take over CPR efforts from bystanders.

The victim was taken to the shore by paddleboard and transported to Cape Cod Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Two Eastham police officers with symptoms of saltwater inhalation and hypothermia were treated at the hospital and one of them was kept overnight for observation.

Officials are trying to determine if the kiteboarder had an accident or suffered some type of a medical emergency.

The victim's name has not been released.
