Barnstable County officials are calling on the Commonwealth for help, regarding plans for a machine gun range at Joint Base Cape Cod.
The Speaker of the county’s Assembly of Delegates has written to Governor Maura Healey to reiterate opposition to the proposed range.
Delegate Patrick Princi has requested the governor intervene and prevent issuance of a construction permit by the Massachusetts National Guard.
The Guard wishes to place a scaled-back version of the range on the northern portion of the base, but within the Upper Cape Water Supply Reserve.
Environmental groups have opposed the range, fearing it could contaminate drinking water.
So far there has been no response from the Governor,
