Massachusetts has modernized laws regarding parentage.
Governor Maura Healey signed the Massachusetts Parentage Act into law, the first update of the matter in four decades.
The governor’s office says the measure will ensure rights and protections for parents who use surrogacy, in-vitro fertilization and assisted reproduction.
The law is also more inclusive to LGBTQ-plus parents.
State Representatives Sarah Peake of Barnstable and Hanna Kane of Worcester sponsored the House version of the measure.
