The Steamship Authority is inching closer to debuting its new vessels.
The ferry service told the Port Council this week that the Barnstable should be ready to leave the Alabama shipyard where the old offshore supply vessel is being converted by the end of August.
Once the Barnstable arrives, a training period for crew and sea trials will be held before the ship begins its new job as a ferry.
The Authority's second ship being converted, the Aquinnah, should be ready by early fall.
