Officials with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health say a mosquito captured in Barnstable has tested posited for eastern equine encephalitis virus.
The insect was caught in the Northeast quadrant of the town.
Officials say they will continue to closely monitor the mosquito population and recommend resident take precautions such as using insect repellent and avoiding being outside at dusk and dawn.
Right now there is no move toward spraying impacted areas as has been done in other parts of the state.
