Funds Sought For M-V Lawsuit Over Football Field

The committee that represents Martha's Vineyard Regional High School is seeking additional funds for a lawsuit.

The matter involves the Oak Bluffs Planning Board and replacing the high school's football field with turf.

Last week, the board voted in a split decision to appeal a Land Court ruling over the denial of the request for a special permit.

The concerns are over PFAS chemicals, which are known to cause health problems and could damage the island's lone aquifer.

The board's attorney was funded by two donations earlier this year totaling five-thousand-dollars.

That money, officials say is largely spent, and any new funding cannot be used until it is officially accepted at the next meeting in January.
