Aging Floodgates Issue In Wednesday Chatham Meeting

A public meeting will take place Wednesday morning in Chatham, to discuss the replacement of an aging floodgate.

The gate on Morris Island Road was installed around 1960 and is used when storm winds are expected from the west or southwest.

The age of the gate, plus its operation are reasons for replacement.

The meeting will be led by Geosyntec Consultants, the company hired to assess the gate, and is scheduled for the Community Center on Main Street at 10 a.m.
