Governor Seeking Monies For Cape Bridges

Governor Healey says she is going to use a "phased in approach" as the administration is working to get the federal funding for new bridges on The Cape.

Although there is a need for both the Sagamore and Bourne Bridges to be rebuilt - the plan is to start with the Sagamore Bridge.

The Governor's office says that they are planning, along with the Army Corps of Engineers a package of two applications later this month as they try to compete for almost a billion and a half dollars in federal funding.

If approved the monies would go immediately to the starting of construction on the Sagamore Bridge.

This is a bit of a course correction since the original plan was to do both the Bourne and Sagamore bridges simultaneously.

For both projects congress approved some 350 million dollars, but that was before inflation forced prices dramatically higher.
