Early Morning Ferry Ship To Stay Part Of The Plan

In what has become an annual controversy, the Steamship Authority Port Council unanimously voted to keep running 5:30 a.m. freight ferry trips.

Woods Hole residents who live near the terminal have maintained longstanding complaints about the noise the ships cause, but Martha's Vineyard officials have countered that the early-morning runs are vital to their economy.

Steamship Authority General Manager Bob Davis says they will continue to discuss the schedule's impact on Falmouth with the community.

Meantime, Davis says that staffing issues are still a big concern and it will mean a continued limited schedule for at least another month.

A board is scheduled to vote on the 2024 schedule on July 18th.
