The Sandwich Historic District committee voted in favor of a demolition permit for the town boardwalk on Wednesday.
Officials have been planning to replace the iconic boardwalk which leads to Town Neck Beach because of its age and storm damage.
The Historic District committee voted 3-to-2 in favor of the demo permit after hearing passionate testimony on both sides, according to a report from the Enterprise.
The board tabled a decision on whether to issue a certificate of appropriateness for the new boardwalk design until September 28th.
