Harwich Fire Department Responds To Oil Spill Along Route 6

The Harwich Fire Department responded to a hydraulic oil spill on Wednesday.

A truck reportedly hit a Route 6 overpass bridge on Depot Street and drove about a half-mile south to Great Western Road, spilling fluid the whole way down at around noon.

The fire department says the town Public Works Department and the Robert B. Our company applied sand to the affected roadways and then swept the fluid up.

The accident is under investigation by local and state police.

This is second time a Route 6 bridge on the Cape has been hit in the last couple of years.

In December of 2019, it happened in Dennis.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation inspected the Route 6 bridge in Harwich yesterday and deemed it safe.
