Chatham Mansion Tax Goes To Town Meeting

A so-called "mansion tax" or "mansion fee" is going to town meeting in Chatham.

The Cape Cod Chronicle reports the proposal approved at a select board meeting last week is for a charge of one-half-of-one-percent on property sales over $2-million.

The revenue would go towards housing projects in the town.

If passed in town meeting, this would also require approval from the state legislature.
