Upcoming Special Election Set To Be Postponed Due To Coronavirus

As Harwich and now Falmouth have announced cases of the Covid 19 virus--the office of State Senate President Karen Spilka has announced that the Senate will take up a measure next week that will give communities the option to postpone an election if they so choose.

The special election to fill the seat once held by Vinny deMacedo was set to be held on March 31st.

That action comes as state lawmakers met with skeletal staff in order to allow people to have as much personal space as possible.

Earlier in the week Bill Galvin, the Secretary of the Commonwealth, who oversees elections had said that he didn’t see a need. But that was before the increased activity of the virus.

Both the Senate and House are expected to deal with the issue on Monday.
