Barnstable County Officials Warn Public About Coronavirus Spread

As the Governor declares a State of Emergency across the Commonwealth the head of the Barnstable Emergency Preparedness has a stark reminder about the virus.

Sean O’Brien says that as of this morning there are no cases of Covid 19 anywhere on The Cape, but in a letter to cities and towns in Barnstable County - he says soon there will.

He is encouraging communities to open discussions with Senior Centers as to what precautions they can take in order to get ahead of the threat.

He also says that there will be a need to have the same discussions with senior care facilities as well since those over the age of 60 with health issues are susceptible to the virus.

The Cape is usually seen as the area of the state with the highest concentration of those in the 60 plus age group.

Meanwhile, Barnstable County is implementing an emergency policy canceling all work related travel for County employees (excluding commuting to work).

Barnstable County officials recommend that employees avoid scheduling or attending large meetings or conferences.

Employees are encouraged to utilize remote meeting tools whenever feasible.
