Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition's Against The Tide Event

The Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition holds two annual statewide Against The Tide events, which help raise money for the MBCC’s work toward breast cancer prevention.

The first of these events happened in June out in Hopkinton. The second one is a couple of weeks away…Saturday, August 17th, happening right here on the Cape, at Nickerson State Park in Brewster.

Against The Tide is actually comprised of four (4) different events: a swim, a walk, a paddle and a kayak! And, you can choose to participate in one...or all four, if you'd like!

Kevin Matthews invited the executive director of the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition and the co-founder & Cape Coordinator for the Silent Spring Institute, Cheryl Osimo into the studio to talk more about the event...and all of the work that is done by the organization, including how studying how environmental factors are a critical factor concerning the cause of breast cancer cases.

"Only 5-10% of all breast cancers are in fact genetic (in nature)." - Cheryl Osimo, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition and the co-founder & Cape Coordinator for the Silent Spring Institute.
